Tomorrow we will represent our school at the Zone Cross Country competition.
We are very excited!
We are a Y5/6 class who share our learning by being respectful, responsible and the best we can be.
Which group made the longest paper chain?
Milana, Doris and Zebiba made the longest paper chain!
Kim thinks they won because they worked fast.
Sophia thinks that they cut their pieces in half to make the chain longer.
Naomi thinks that they cut the pieces of paper and sellotape smaller.
The winning team reflected and think they won because they cut the two pieces of paper at the same time into strips to go faster. "We saw we we running out of tape so we cut them into small pieces."
Teams are having to communicate clearly and make sure everyone has a job to do if they want to make the biggest paper chain!
To mark the start of Term 2, we are participating in a STEM Challenge to design and make the longest paper chains.
STEM stands for Sceince, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
Teams are working well together, sharing ideas and planning their design.
We emailed a teacher at school yesterday to ask her some questions to help us find the answers to our messy maths.
Today we emailed other people at school and talked together to find answers to our other questions.
So far we have learned that:
- the bush walk was free
- the buses cost money
- we can send emails to find out the answrrs to our questions because sometimes other people know the answers when we don't.
Today is Day 1 of our Real Messy Maths: Money Matters.
Last week was EOTC Week. Our bush walk trip was cancelled because of rain. Some of us think we should get a refund.
We are trying to find out:
- how much money in total would need to be refunded?
- how much money would each student get back as a refund?
- would all year 4 students at NWS get a refund?
We are in smalk groups of 3 and are trying to find out the answers to these questions.
We came up with other questions we needed answers to first.
